Shakey's Pizza closes Renton location, leaving Western WA without one
RENTON, Wash. - After decades of serving up pizza, fried chicken and its iconic Mojo potatoes, Shakey’s Pizza Parlor in Renton will permanently close its doors on January 20.
The closure marks the end of the chain's presence in Western Washington, leaving the last remaining location in the state in Pasco, located in Eastern Washington.
The backstory:
Shakey’s Pizza, founded in Sacramento in 1954, holds the distinction of being the first franchise pizza chain in the United States.
Known for its signature cornmeal-dusted crusts and lively atmosphere, the chain has become a nostalgic favorite for generations of families.

California-based pizza chain Mountain Mike's is opening its first Washington location on December 9.
The Renton location’s closure is attributed to property redevelopment, leaving fans in the region to bid farewell to one of the area’s most iconic pizzerias.
By the numbers:
In its prime, Shakey’s boasted over 340 locations in 1968, but the number has since dwindled. While there are still several locations in Southern California and one in Northern California, the loss of the Renton restaurant leaves Western Washington without a single Shakey's.
Globally, Shakey’s continues to operate internationally, with locations in the Philippines, Singapore and Japan, maintaining its reputation for serving pizza alongside fried chicken and Mojo potatoes in a family-friendly setting.
Shakey’s legacy in Renton has spanned decades, hosting countless family gatherings, birthday parties and casual dinners. For fans in Western Washington, the closure of this location marks the end of an era.
What you can do:
Customers are encouraged to stop by for one last meal before the January 20 closure to say goodbye to the iconic restaurant that has been part of the community for so many years.
