Seattle's first Burgermaster to close its doors after 73 iconic years

After serving the community for more than seven decades, the University District Burgermaster, Seattle’s first location of the beloved burger chain, will close its doors at the end of February.

Built in 1952, the U District Burgermaster has been a staple of Seattle’s dining history, offering not just meals but memories for generations of students, families and visitors. Known for its iconic drive-in style and classic menu, the location has been a go-to spot for everything from first dates to pregame bites before Husky games.

"This was the very first Burgermaster, and it has been an enduring cornerstone of Seattle’s history," the restaurant shared in a heartfelt Facebook post Wednesday announcing the closure.

While the decision to close the historic location was expected, the restaurant acknowledged the emotional weight of the farewell. 

"To our loyal patrons, thank you for your unwavering support and for making this location so special," the post read.
