Sheriff: Man invites family friend over to dinner, tells him he just killed his estranged wife
LONGVIEW, Wash. -- A man invited a family friend to dinner and then told him he had just killed his estranged wife, the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office said Monday.
According to KPTV in Portland, deputies said Cleon Moen told the friend he had shot his wife. The friend then left and called 911, deputies said.
When deputies had arrived, they found that Moen had attached an exhaust pipe from his truck to an outbuilding in an attempt to kill himself. They also found the body of his estranged wife, Michelle Moen, inside the home.
Moen was taken into custody, deputies said, and taken to a hospital for carbon monoxide poisoning. He will be booked into jail on first-degree murder charges when released from the hospital, deputies said.
According to KPTV, Cleon Moen has been involved with authorities before. Deputies said he shot himself last November outside the Hall of Justice after a mistrial on domestic violence charges.
