Smells like Rock and Roll! Nirvana to be inducted into Hall of Fame
NEW YORK – Local grunge gods Nirvana will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The rest of the Class of 2014 includes Kiss, Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates, Cat Stevens and Linda Ronstadt. ‘The E Street Band’ and late Beatles manager Brian Epstein will also receive honors.
First-time nominee Nirvana gained the second highest number of fan votes, behind Kiss. Unfortunately despite fan votes, Yes and Deep Purple will not be inducted this year.
According to the Seattle Times, Nirvana is fourth act from Seattle to receive the prestigious recognition, behind Jimi Hendrix, the Ventures and Heart. Other local acts like Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam will be eligible for the Hall of Fame in the coming years.
The ceremony will be held in April in New York. HBO will air the special in May.
