Snowboarder's body recovered from Mount Hood
MOUNT HOOD, Oregon - A search team recovered the body of a snowboarded that was killed when an ice tunnel collapsed on Mount Hood Saturday. Rescuers used chain saws and hand tools to cut through tons of ice to reach the body of Collin Backowski Sunday morning, The Oregonian reported. Backowski, 25, from Pines, Colorado and 5 other men were looking for a place to snowboard on Mt Hood's south slopes Saturday. They entered an ice tunnel at the 8100 - foot level on Mount Hood, when the tunnel collapsed, trapping Backowski, the Oregonian reported.
Two of the other men were hit by debris but were not injured. Backowski was buried under ice that was reportedly the size of a school bus. Backowski's family has been notified and his body was transferred to Anderson's Tribute Center of Hood River, the paper reported.
