Sounders' Eddie Johnson may be asked to step up for USMNT
SEATTLE -- With possibly two USMNT players out for the World Cup Qualifier against Panama, Sounders' Eddie Johnson may be asked to take on a challenge.
In the 2-1 victory against Jamaica Friday, USMNT's central midfielder Jermaine Jones collided with Jamaica defender Daniel Gordon. Jones has been suffering from concussion-like symptoms since the collision, but will be evaluated by a neurologist tomorrow to determine whether or not he will play against Panama.
With Jones potentially out for Tuesday and USMNT Graham Zusi ineligible due to a yellow card, Eddie Johnson may be seeing some new responsibilities. Johnson may be moved outside to make-up for the midfield mayhem.
Johnson said he would be happy and willing to step up to the task in front of his home crowd.
The World Cup Qualifier between USMNT and Panama will be held at 6:30 pm Tuesday at CenturyLink Field.
Sounders' Brad Evans will join Johnson to play for USMNT in front of their home crowd.
