Spokane police officer booked on rape charge
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The Spokane County Sheriff's Office says a Spokane Police officer has been booked on a rape charge in an alleged sexual assault involving a female officer at a party in October.
The Sheriff's Office said in a news release Wednesday they've concluded their investigation into the Oct. 25 incident and believe they have enough information to charge Sgt. Gordon Ennis with second-degree rape.
Ennis turned himself in at the Spokane County Jail Wednesday afternoon.
The female officer reportedly told detectives she had been drinking at the party and passed out in a bedroom. She told police she awoke to find Ennis assaulting her.
The Sheriff's Office is also recommending that Sgt. John Gately be charged with rendering criminal assistance and obstruction of a law enforcement officer. Those allegations are being reviewed by county prosecutors.
