State DOC officer shot, wounded in Auburn; suspect shot multiple times, police say
AUBURN, Wash. -- An officer with the Washington Department of Corrections was shot in the leg in Auburn Tuesday while trying to arrest a person on a warrant, police said. Other law enforcement officers returned fire, hitting the suspect multiple times.
The shooting occurred at 3428 I St. NE, police said.
Police said that an ATF/DOC task force was attempting to arrest a person on a warrant at about 3 p.m. when the suspect pulled out a gun and fired at officers, hitting DOC officer Kristoffer Rongen, 46, a 14-year veteran with the DOC, in the leg. Law enforcement agents returned fire, hitting the suspect several times, police said.

Rongen and the the suspect were both taken to Harborview Medical Center.
"Neither Rongen nor the suspect are believed to have life-threatening injuries," the DOC said in a news release.
Harborview later said that Rongen was in satisfactory condition and the suspect was in critical condition.
No other details were immediately available.
