Surprise! Mariners re-sign Iwakuma after he reportedly fails physical with Dodgers
SEATTLE – The Seattle Mariners announced late Thursday night that they re-signed right-handed pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma, who had reportedly agreed to a contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers but then failed his physical.
The Mariners said Iwakuma signed a one-year deal with vesting options for two more.
“We said from the start that Kuma was a priority for us,” general manager Jerry Dipoto said in a press release. “Obviously, the developments from the last few days allowed us to get back in the game.
Iwakuma is 47-25 with a 3.17 ERA in four seasons with the Mariners. Last August, he threw the fifth no-hitter in franchise history.
