SUV passenger killed in I-5 semi crash

SeaTac, Wash -- One person has died after a crash on I-5 in SeaTac just before midnight Saturday night.

Washington State Patrol troopers were called to reports of a semi hitting a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe and rolling over on southbound I-5 near S 200th street. When they arrived they found a 42-year old woman in the SUV had died. The driver of the SUV was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. Another passenger in the SUV was also hospitalized, as were the two people inside the semi truck.

Investigators say the crash was caused when the SUV lost control while slowing for traffic, skidding into the semi and causing it to roll over.

The semi truck was loaded with frozen food. Troopers responding to the incident say they had to take extra precaution, because the semi could have rolled downhill into the northbound lanes of the freeway.

Lanes were closed for almost 12 hours as crews cleared the scene.
