Teacher suspended for allegedly outing student to father, asking students about their sexuality

DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. -- A Florida teacher has been suspended for allegedly outing a gay student to their parent, asking students about their sexuality and saying she hates "white people."

According to the Orlando Sentinel and FOX 30, middle school teacher Kelly Hendrix was suspended for 15 days without pay after claims her students made about her behavior were found true.

Hendrix allegedly cursed at students, used racially insensitive terms and often used homophobic insults, her students claim.

Hendrix also told a student's father his daughter was a lesbian, FOX 30 reports. According to the Orlando Sentinel, Hendrix called the girl's father and told him without the student's approval. Hendrix even admitted to asking if a male student was gay.

Hendrix's use of intimidation was reportedly widespread, telling students she "owns them" on more than one occasion.

Police investigated the claims against Hendrix, but found she did nothing legally wrong.

Hendrix denies the claims and says she only ever talked to students about their sexuality to help them.

"I teach 165 kids this year," Hendrix told FOX 30. "They pulled me out of the class because of one complaint. One complaint. I've been teaching 21 years."
