Teen arrested for reporting false story

SUMAS, Wash. (AP) — Whatcom County authorities say they have arrested a teenage boy who allegedly told police a false story about how he was shot at by a neighbor.

The Bellingham Herald reports (http://goo.gl/3wNttm ) the 17-year-old was arrested Wednesday and booked into juvenile detention.

The teen had called police to report that his neighbor in Sumas, a small town near the Canadian border, had shot at him outside his home. He said the bullet hit his truck and that the suspect fled on an ATV.

Whatcom County authorities, U.S. Border Patrol agents and a helicopter helped in the search for the alleged shooter, who was found at his home and detained.

Authorities say the boy admitted hours later that he had shot the truck and blamed it on the neighbor.
