Teenage girl killed when tree falls on her during hike in Edmonds park
EDMONDS, Wash. -- A 17-year-old girl was killed Friday when a tree fell on her while she and friends were hiking in Edmonds' Meadowdale Beach Park, the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said.
The girl was among a group of hikers who were walking through the woods when a tree fell on her, the sheriff's office said. It happened about 2 p.m., a spokesman added.
Members of the group tried to lift the tree off the girl, but it was too heavy, the sheriff's office said.
The park has been closed, and the county medical examiner was headed to the scene.
The victim has not been identified, pending notification to her family.
