Toddlers found in room with heroin smokers
TULALIP -- A man and woman were arrested Friday and face charges of second-degree criminal mistreatment after they were found smoking heroin in a room with a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old, the Everett Herald reported.
According to the Herald, the man, 31, and the woman, 23, were arrested by Tulalip Tribal Police Friday. Officers said they were outside of the home Friday and could see that the pair were smoking heroin on the inside. The police arrested the couple when they came outside, and obtained a search warrant to go inside the house.
Inside, they found two children sleeping under blankets that were burned and reportedly covered in heroin residue. There was also dirty cotton balls and needles within the children's reach, the Herald reported.
The children were placed in the care of child protective services and the couple are in Snohomish County Jail.
Last year, a Tulalip toddler died from neglect in a car while her mother was inside a home smoking heroin.
