Troopers use pit maneuver to stop stolen truck

LYNWOOD -- Washington State Patrol troopers used a pit maneuver on a crowded highway to stop a fleeing couple driving a stolen truck Monday following a long chase.

The pair reportedly dodged spike strips and other maneuvers set by the WSP before finally coming to a stop around 8 a.m. near Renton.

The driver of a 1994 Toyota pick-up was spotted around 7:20 a.m. speeding on Interstate 5 near Lynnwood. A WSP Trooper reportedly tried to pull the car over, but the driver allegedly sped up. Police initiated a pursuit that went through onto Interstate 405 Kirkland and Bellevue, unsuccessfully trying to stop the driver and his passenger multiple times. However, according to WSP officials, troopers managed to bump the car from behind and stop it on I-405 just south of State Route 167.

Police took the driver and the passenger into custody. Troopers determined the truck was stolen.

The Washington State Patrol is investigating the incident.
