Two hurt as helicopter crash lands after takeoff at Olympia airport

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Two people suffered minor injuries when a helicopter crash landed shortly after taking off from Olympia Regional Airport.

The crash happened Friday morning on airport property, according to Port of Olympia spokesperson Jennie Foglia-Jones.

Foglia-Jones said the two people on board were not seriously hurt.

Northwest Helicopters said the Bell UH-1H chopper was on a routine test flight when the tail rotor failed. The helicopter landed hard with substantial damage.

The airport was still operational, she said.

The FAA and NTSB are investigating.
