U.S. Coast Guardsman sentenced to prison over child porn, other sex charges
SEATTLE -- A Coast Guardsman who had been based in Coos Bay, Ore., was given a bad conduct discharge and sentenced Friday to 18 months in prison for child porn and other sex-related charges.
Earlier Friday, Coast Guard Fireman Nicholas Fair pleaded guilty at a general court-martial to making false official statements, conducting an indecent act of making visual material of another person without their consent, possession and attempted receipt of child pornography, and wrongfully agreeing to engage in sexual conduct for a fee, the Coast Guard said.
Fair was assigned to Coos Bay when the offenses occurred, the Coast Guard said.
The military judge in the court-martial initially sentenced Fair to four years in prison and a dishonorable discharge, but under a plea agreement, the sentence was limited to 18 months in prison and a bad conduct discharge.
