Unconfirmed sighting of missing California girl in Jefferson Co.

BREMERTON -- The Washington State Patrol received a report of a Blue Nissan hatchback with California license plates traveling west on Highway 101 near the Jefferson and Clallam counties line Thursday morning.

The report matched a description of the car owned by James DiMaggio, a California man suspect of kidnapping 16-year-old Hannah Anderson and her 8-year-old brother Ethan Anderson, who is now believed to be dead. Remains of a child were found in the DiMaggio’s burned home, but there has not been a confirmation on the identity of the victim.

DiMaggio, 40, was good friends with the Anderson family, and CNN reported he "had a crush" on the teenage girl.

A trooper called to the area was not able to locate the car, Washington State Patrol Trooper Russell Winger said. He said he didn't know much about the sighting, other that it was unconfirmed.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
