University of Idaho works with Olympia to light up pavement
OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) _ The University of Idaho is working with officials in Olympia to try out new lighted and raised pavement markers.
The Olympian reports (https://is.gd/kpV2QS ) the markers are being installed next week on Capitol Boulevard to see if they help improve lane visibility. They are expected to help people see lane markers from more than 1,000 feet away.
The project will replace the kind of markers that are just reflectors with ones that are solar-powered LED lights.
Video cameras are going to watch how vehicles negotiate the curve where the new lights will be placed.
The pilot project is a parnership with the University of Idaho's National Institute for Advanced Transportation Technology and Evolution Markings, Inc.
