SEATTLE – The University of Washington has been named 16th best school in the world. That’s according to the Center for World-Class Universities of Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China.
“We are very gratified by the Shanghai Jiao Tong ranking,” UW President Michael K. Young said in a press release. “It is a fact-based assessment that reflects the accomplishments of our world-class faculty, who not only deserve the credit for our ranking as high as we do, but also the recognition these rankings bring.”
Harvard, Stanford, UC Berkeley, MIT and Cambridge were the top five schools listed. The rankings are based on quality of education, faculty, research output and per capita performance.
According to a press release, the UW ranked 16th in the study in 2010, 2011 and 2012. It also ranked third in the world in medicine, fifth in life sciences.
