Vantage, WA wildfire prompts I-90 closure, Level 3 'Go Now' evacuations

A fast-moving wildfire prompted Level 3 "Go Now" evacuations in the city of Vantage, Washington on Wednesday.

The Kittitas County Sheriff's Office says all Vantage residents living north of I-90 are advised to evacuate immediately. Those living south of I-90 are no longer under evacuation orders and are allowed to return to their homes.

What we know:

It's being called the Ryegrass Coulee Fire, which sparked near the I-90 Vantage Bridge Wednesday afternoon. The fire has impacted at least one home and downed powerlines along the Vantage Highway.

I-90 reopens after full closure

I-90 was closed in both directions for several hours due to fire activity and smoke causing low visibility. The freeway has since reopened.

The Vantage Highway remains closed due to powerlines over the road.

Authorities will provide more information as the situation develops.

A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for central and eastern Washington through 10 p.m. Wednesday.
