Watch: Would-be burglar climbs onto roof, then falls to ground as family sits inside home
PUYALLUP -- A burglar is on the run after falling nearly 8 feet from a roof onto her backside. Surveillance cameras caught the suspect while police said she was casing the home all while the family was inside.
“It was scary the first week,” said homeowner Angela Johnson. “Our daughter didn’t want to be upstairs at all by herself.”
Johnson is still reeling after her security cameras caught a stranger walking through her Puyallup backyard for nearly an hour last month.
“I was up late that night, I was watching TV, the whole house of our house was lit up,” she said.
Even the motion-activated lights didn’t deter the lurking lady. Surveillance video shows her shooting straight up and continuing her leisurely stroll in the middle of the night. But what happened next surprised both Johnson and Puyallup police.
“I’ve never actually seen something so crazy,” said police detective Michael Lusk. “Fifty minutes worth, then climbing on the roof, was very bizarre.”
That’s right – the would-be burglar climbed up onto the second-story rooftop. Angela’s family first thought they heard a squirrel scampering across the roof.
“They go to the window, they see movement, they bang on the window, which scared the living daylights of the suspect,” said Lusk.
“When I saw her, I banged and screamed,” Johnson said.
That’s when the bungling burglar fell flat on her behind and the quickly left the property.
“She wasn’t looking for a lost Frisbee or nothing like that,” Lusk said, “She was looking for a window to get inside and commit who knows what.”
