Where beer bongs are more important than books
PRINCETON (N.J.) – It’s a list that college regents’ boards probably don’t look forward to, the list of America’s biggest party schools. Every year, Princeton University comes out with its “best of” list, and some revel in it and some absolutely hate it.
Take the University of Iowa for example. It was rated the best party school. Officials there say they have spent the past three years trying hard not to be on that list. The University of California, Santa Barbara came in second on the list, followed by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. West Virginia University and Syracuse University round out the top five party schools.
On the flip side of the list are the top sober schools in the country. Brigham Young University was number one, followed by Wheaton College in Illinois. The College of the Ozarks in Missouri was third on the list. Thomas Aquinas College in California and the West Point Military Academy round out the top five sober schools.
Several schools in Washington State did make other lists. Evergreen College in Olympia came in third for a category called “Reefer Madness,” a reference to smoking marijuana. The college also made the list of ‘Top Birkenstock Tree Hugging Schools.” Whitman College in Walla Walla made several lists, including easiest campus to get around and everyone playing intramural sports. Apparently, the 1539 students who go there are pretty happy, it was rated 13th for happiest students.
As for the state’s two largest schools, Washington State University was rated 15th for everyone playing intramural sports. The University of Washington was seventh for worst college dorms.
