Woman raped at makeshift camp in Sodo district
SEATTLE -- A woman was sexually assaulted Friday morning as she slept at a makeshift camp site in the Sodo district, police said.
At about 5:30 a.m., the woman contacted a passing Good Samaritan, who referred her to a Metro supervisor on 4th Avenue S. just north of S. Royal Brougham Way.
Police responded and found Seattle Fire medics already providing treatment for the the woman's bleeding facial injuries.
“The victim reported that she has a camp nearby and that she usually shares the camp with a male friend. However, she was alone this morning and at about 2 a.m., she was asleep in her makeshift tent, when the unknown suspect entered, held her down, assaulted and raped her,” a police statement said.
The victim sustained swelling and lacerations to her face (bridge of nose,) bruising to the back of her head and sore ribs. She was transported to Harborview Medical Center.
The suspect remains at large.
The suspect is described as a black male, 5-foot-8, balding gray hair and “protruding eyes.” He was wearing blue jean shorts, a red Nike belt with “N” on the buckle and red Nike shoes.
