Woman shot by deputy near Spokane identified

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Authorities have identified a woman shot by a Spokane County Sheriff's deputy south of Spokane.

Spokane police said in a news release the woman, identified as 21-year-old Tina Fricke, is in stable condition at a local hospital.

Fricke was reportedly shot once in the shoulder by a deputy after officials responded to reports of a person pointing a handgun at passing motorists on Highway 195 at Excelsior Road Monday afternoon.

Police say Fricke was shot sometime after law enforcement made contact with her. She faces multiple charges.

The sheriff's office says they will release the deputy's name at a later date.

A regional team from multiple law enforcement agencies is investigating. The results of the investigation will be forwarded to the Spokane County Prosecutor's Office for review.
