Woman's fake Facebook profile leads to ex-husband's arrest
GRAHAM – A Pierce County woman turned to social media in order to implicate her ex-husband in a fire that destroyed her SUV.
According to the Tacoma News Tribune, court documents reveal that the woman was initially suspicious about the June 12 fire because of an argument she had with her ex-husband just hours before.
The woman created a fake Facebook profile and started chatting with the man online. The paper reports that he eventually admitted to setting a fire inside her Chevrolet Tahoe.
Deputies later checked the man’s phone records and found that he had placed several calls near the woman’s home the night of the fire.
When detectives questioned the man, he said he knew the Facebook profile was created by his ex-wife and fessed up to the fire in order to mess with her. As for the cell phone records, he claimed his son ran away and he might have visited the neighborhood when he went to look for him.
He’s since pleaded not guilty to second-degree arson. His bail has been set at $150,000.
