WSU student drowns in Seattle pool

SEATTLE -- A 27-year-old Washington State University graduate student drowned in a Seattle hotel pool late last month while in town for an economics conference.

Tesfaye Deboch was swimming laps at 5:30 p.m. on June 30 at the Quality Inn & Suites near the Seattle Center, the Spokesman-Review reported, when he suddenly stopped and began waiving his arms for help.

The student was found at the bottom of the pool when medical aid arrived. According to the Review, the water in the pool was murky and they had trouble locating Deboch's body.

According to a WSU website, Deboch was expected to graduate with a PhD in Economics in 2014.
