WWE legend Chyna found dead in her home at age 45

LOS ANGELES -- WWE legend Chyna, whose real name was Joanie Laurer has died, according to a post on her Facebook page.

“It is with deep sadness to inform you today that we lost a true icon, a real life superhero. Joanie Laurer aka Chyna, the 9th wonder of the world has passed away. She will live forever in the memories of her millions of fans and all of us that loved her, the post read.

Laurer’s manager, Anthony Anzaldo, confirmed to KTLA that she was found dead Wednesday afternoon at her home in Redondo Beach, Calif.

According to KTLA, officers were called to Laurer’s apartment in the 900 block of Esplanade around 3:35 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a 911 call from a friend who said the former wrestler was not breathing, according to Sgt. Shawn Freeman with the Redondo Beach Police Department.

The friend had dropped by to check on Laurer after not hearing from her in several days, Freeman said in a news release.

There were no indications or signs that her death was a result of foul play, according to the release.

The exact nature, cause and time of death were still being investigated by the Los Angeles County Coroner.

TMZ Sports said officials were investigating whether it was a possible overdose.

Laurer first rose to prominence in the World Wrestling Federation in 1997, where she performed under the ring name Chyna and was billed as the "Ninth Wonder of the World".

After leaving the WWF, which later became the WWE, in 2001, Chyna wrestled sporadically and appeared in Playboy magazine twice. In 2005, Laurer was a cast member on VH1's "The Surreal Life," which led to several other celebrity reality appearances on the network, including "The Surreal Life: Fame Games in 2007" and "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew" in 2008.

She was also known for her tumultuous relationship with fellow wrestler Sean Waltman, with whom she made a sex tape released commercially in 2004 as "1 Night in China." She later starred in other pornographic films.
