Yankees edge Mariners 2-1



SEATTLE -- The Mariners just couldn't get enough offense going for their ace, Felix Hernandez, as the Mariners took on the New York Yankees in the final of a four-game series.

The Mariners only run of the game came in the bottom of the 2nd inning, when the M's Brendan Ryan hit an infield single to shortstop, scoring Kelly Shoppach to tie the game at one run each.

The M's Felix Hernandez pitched well overall pitching 7 innings, allowing only one run and 5 hits, while striking out 7 Yankees.

The deciding run came in the 9th inning against Mariners reliever Yoervis Medina gave up a single to left field, scoring former Mariner Ichiro Suzuki to make the game Yankees 2, Mariners 1.

Once again, New York looked to their closer, Mariano Rivera, who came in at the 9th inning.

With Raul Ibanez and Endy Chavez on base, Michael Saunders hits a fly ball to left field for the final out of the game.
