REEDSPORT, Ore. -- A truck pulling a flatbed semi loaded with lumber crashed through a guardrail and went over a bridge railing, leaving the truck and trailer partially hanging off the bridge over the Umpqua River near Reedsport, Ore., KPTV in Portland reported Thursday.
State police said the crash happened on Highway 38 at the Scottsburg Bridge around 8:20 a.m. Thursday, the news station said.
A 1994 Peterbilt truck being driven by a 54-year-old man failed to navigate a left curve before it smashed into the guardrail. The lumber spilled off the trailer as the truck went over the railing.
The driver suffered minor injuries, and an ambulance took him to Lower Umpqua Hospital to be treated.
Police later identified the driver as 54-year-old Brian Neeley of Sheridan. He was cited on charges of careless driving and failure to drive within a lane, KPTV said.
