The Chicago Cubs made it so the Seattle Mariners couldn't attempt to rally for a victory on Sunday.
After the Mariners won in 10 innings on Friday night, and rallied from 4-2 down in the ninth inning on Saturday for a 5-4 victory, the Cubs rolled to a 19-2 victory in Seattle on Sunday afternoon.
The backstory:
The Cubs scored 12 runs over the final two innings with five runs scored off catcher Jhonny Pereda and third baseman Weston Wilson. Last week in Milwaukee, the Mariners set a franchise record in a 22-0 loss to the Brewers with featured nine runs scored off infielder Leo Rivas.
Seattle starter Bryce Miller allowed six runs on just two hits, due to a career-high seven walks allowed and a grand slam courtesy of Ian Happ in the third inning that blew the game open. Michael Rucker allowed seven runs on four hits with two walks and a strikeout while recording just two outs in the eighth inning before the Mariners gave the ball to position players to finish out the string.
Randy Arozarena hit a lead-off home run for the second straight game to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead. With the home run, Arozarena becomes just the fifth player in MLB history to post six consecutive seasons with 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases.
Victor Robles walked, stole second and third base, and scored on a throwing error by catcher Carson Kelly that allowed him to score on the steal of third for a 2-0 lead.

Then it went south for Miller and the Mariners in the third. Michael Conforto homered to get the Cubs on the board to lead-off the inning. Miller then walked the bases loaded with two outs before giving up the grand slam to Happ off the right field foul pole for a 5-2 lead.
Miller walked the bases loaded again in the fifth inning as Chicago was able to add one more run for a 6-2 advantage. A rate 6-3-2 double play from Leo Rivas to Cal Raleigh to Wilson allowed Seattle to escape the jam without further damage.
The Cubs tagged Rucker hard in the eighth to put the game out of reach, and a Pedro Ramírez grand slam off Pereda added insult to injury.
