For the second night in a row, the Seattle Mariners beat the Chicago Cubs with their final swing of the bat.

Randy Arozarena homered with two outs in the ninth inning off Cubs right-hander Jacob Webb as the Mariners rallied from two runs down for a 5-4 victory that helped Seattle gain ground in the AL West.

Weston Wilson doubled to right-center field with two outs in the ninth to begin the Seattle rally. Leo Rivas – who delivered the game-winning single in the 10th inning of Friday night's 6-5 victory – followed with a well-placed single to right field that drove in Wilson to cut the lead to 4-3.

Arozarena then drove an 0-1 slider from Wilson over the center field fence for a stunning two-run home run that stole a victory away from the Cubs.

As a bonus, the Mariners picked up a game on both the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers in the AL West race. The Astros lost 4-3 to the Sacramento Athletics, while the Rangers fell 3-0 to the Los Angeles Angels. Seattle is now three games back of the Astros and two games back of Texas. The Mariners also moved within two games of the final Wild Card spot.

The backstory:

It was a stellar performance for Arozarena, who hit two home runs and stole a home run away from the Cubs in the victory. Arozarena homered on the first pitch he saw to lead-off the bottom of the first, and homered on the last pitch of the game in the bottom of the ninth.

Chicago's Pete Crow-Armstrong accomplished the same feat last Monday against the Chicago White Sox, becoming the first player in 70 years to homer on the first and last pitch of a game. Arozarena joined the group less than a week later.

Arozarena's solo home run off David Peterson in the first inning gave the Mariners and top prospect Kade Anderson a 1-0 lead to work with. He went 3-for-4 with a walk, three RBI and two runs scored for Seattle.

Anderson – who made his debut against the Cubs after a dominant minor league season in Double-A Arkansas – was terrific through five innings against a strong Chicago lineup. Anderson allowed only one hit and a walk through his first four innings. A lead-off walk of Tyrone Taylor in the fifth came back to bite Anderson. Taylor stole second, advanced to third on a single by Pedro Ramírez, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Kevin Alcántara to tie the game at 1-1.

Wilson, who was a late addition to the lineup when Brendan Donovan was scratched just prior to first pitch, singled in the fifth and Rivas was hit by a pitch to put a pair of runners on. Arozarena singled to load the bases before Dominic Canzone's RBI groundout gave Seattle a 2-1 lead. Wilson and Rivas each had two hits for Seattle.

But Anderson ran into trouble his third time through the order. A shocking double play where Crow-Armstrong got caught between second and third on a routine groundout by Seiya Suzuki seemed like it would allow Anderson to complete the sixth inning. Instead, Alex Bregman and Michael Busch homered on consecutive pitches to give the Cubs a 3-2 lead and take a potential win off the board for Anderson in his debut.

Anderson finished with three runs allowed on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts over 5 ⅔ innings for Seattle.

Chicago added another run as Taylor's ground-rule double off Carlos Vargas scored Nico Hoerner for a 4-2 lead.
