Sounders Sigi Schmid suffers broken leg

 

SEATTLE - Sounders head coach, Sigi Schmid was on crutches and wearing a cast on his lower left leg Wednesday as he was nursing a broken bone in his leg following a recent accident at his home.

Schmid said he slipped on his back step, breaking his left fibula.

“All my body weight came down on my left foot so I’ve broken the fibula,” said Schmid. “First 48 hours, 72 hours is always just dealing with the pain a little bit, but it’ll get better.”

Schmid said that he’ll likely wear the cast for six weeks, but the injury won’t affect his coaching duties when the team returns to action at home against the Philadelphia Union on Saturday.

“I wish there was a fantastic story, but the referee never red-carded the guy, don’t know what the deal was with that,” Schmid joked. “I thought it was a red at least; I thought the yellow was a little soft.”
