Wounded Mount Vernon officer in critical but stable condition

TACOMA  — A police officer who was wounded while investigating a reported shooting in Washington state remains in critical but stable condition at a Seattle hospital.Harborview Medical Center spokeswoman Susan Gregg said in news release Sunday that Mike McClaughry is in the intensive care unit.McClaughry was shot in the head Thursday evening while canvassing a neighborhood in Mount Vernon, about 60 miles north of Seattle, for witnesses to a report of another shooting.The 61-year-old officer is a father of three and a grandfather who started working with the Mount Vernon Police Department in 1985.A repeat felon arrested in McClaughry's shooting is being held on $1 million bail.

SEATTLE (AP) — The young man accused of fatally shooting five people at the Cascade Mall in Burlington had a history of violence against his family and girlfriend, who told police he had links with "bad people in Turkey," according to documents obtained by The Associated Press.The reports reveal suspect Arcan Cetin had an interest in beheadings by the Islamic State militant group and followed their activities in the news.An hour before the Sept. 23 shooting in Macy's in Burlington, Washington, the reports say he bought a ticket to the film "Snowden" at the mall's theater.He went into the theater and propped an outside door open with his cellphone, suggesting he may have planned a repeat of the Aurora, Colorado, mass shooting by James Holmes.After Cetin went outside, however, a person in the theater found the partially crushed phone and gave it to an employee at a kiosk.

BURLINGTON, Wash. -- The 20-year-old suspect in a shooting rampage at a mall in Burlington admitted to killing all five victims, according to court documents obtained Monday by Q13 News.Authorities say the gunman in the attack at the Cascade Mall opened fire in the cosmetics department of the Macy's store Friday night, killing a man and four women ranging from a teenager to a senior citizen.Arcan Cetin, who was arrested Saturday evening after a nearly 24-hour manhunt, appeared Monday morning in Skagit County District Court in Mount Vernon.He was formally charged Monday with five counts of first-degree premeditated murder.
