One couple who had to evacuate just brought their baby home on Monday after spending nine weeks in the NICU. They are temporarily taking shelter with family nearby.

Multiple wildfires burning in Pierce County destroyed several homes early Tuesday morning and prompted evacuation orders for some neighborhoods. Later in the day, evacuations were also ordered for portions of Thurston County.

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee said Tuesday more than 330,000 acres burned in Washington in a 24-hour period - more than burns in most entire fire seasons.

Underneath the rubble, ash and smoke once stood six homes in a neighborhood in Graham.

Thick smoke from wildfires burning in Eastern Washington continues to blanket the western part of the state and an air quality alert is in effect for the Puget Sound until 10 am Wednesday.

A closure for SR 410 east of Enumclaw will be in effect for several days starting Tuesday due to a wildfire spreading through the area.

The 300,000-plus acres that have burned in Washington state over the past 24 hours is more than double the total acreage that burned in the state last year. 

Nearly every structure in a small town in eastern Washington state was destroyed in a raging wildfire on Monday as weather conditions have allowed blazes to grow across the Pacific Northwest.

The fires are in the path of winds gusts that could reach up to 75 mph, officials said. That's like a hurricane hitting a wildfire.
