CAPTURED: Spokane County deputies arrest criminal couple accused of bogus burglary and insurance scam

FUGITIVE CAPTURED June 30, 2014 -- The Spokane County Sheriff's Office says deputies arrested William Cafolla and Becky Sypher after the accused criminal couple tried fooling deputies to try and avoid capture. It started when a deputy was patrolling an area where there had been reports of drug activity. The deputy drove up behind a vehicle that was pulling out of  a parking lot. The vehicle turned into a residential driveway.  The deputy noticed no one exited the vehicle even though there were people in the backyard.  After a short period, the vehicle then backed out of the driveway. The vehicle was pulled over for committing a traffic infraction.  The vehicle stopped, the driver was given instructions when he exited the vehicle, he bent down into the cab then turned around and fled. After a short foot pursuit, William Cafolla was caught and taken into custody.  The female passenger, later identified as Becky Sypher, had also fled from the vehicle.  She was  taken into custody by another deputy who located her a few blocks away. WANTED IN SPOKANE COUNTY June 7, 2014 -- A criminal couple on the run in Spokane County is accused of trying to pull-off a not-so-smooth insurance scam. Detectives say convicted felon, William Cafolla, and his girlfriend, Becky Sypher, are admitted drug users who have five felony warrants between the two. Caffolla's been busted for multiple domestic violence crimes. Now, he and Sypher are accused of staging a bogus burglary of their rented trailer to try and score drugs -- $40,000 worth -- the amount of their criminal insurance claim. Detectives say Caffola broke down the front door for effect, and sold everything they claimed was stolen to a pawn shop -- including a gun he illegally had. William Caffola is 52 years old. Becky Sypher is 35 and detectives say she has a rap sheet six years long.
