Zetron’s 'Shoot for the Stars' golf tournament raises $30K for Behind the Badge Foundation

NEWCASTLE -- In a time when there's a lot of hostility towards police -- one group is standing up to tell cops and their families, "We have your back." Zetron's "Shoot for the Stars" golf tournament was held on Wednesday at The Golf Club at Newcastle. It benefits "Behind the Badge Foundation” which helps fallen and injured law enforcement officers and their families all across the state.

Local sports legends like Jim Zorn, Slick Watts and Nesby Glasgow hit the links with first responders and folks from various law enforcement agencies. The event hit its goal of raising $30,000 for "Behind the Badge Foundation," bringing the total tally the event's raised the past five years to $95,000 “We come along the side of family at the time of a ‘line of duty’ death,” says ‘Behind the Badge Foundation’ Executive Director, Kit Ford. “And most of the public isn’t aware that there are no public funds for those public memorials, so our goal is the family to not have to spend one dime of a cost for that memorial." Zetron, a leading mission-critical communications systems provider based in Redmond hosted the event for the fifth straight year. “It’s been a wonderful event. It gets more and more popular every year,” says Zetron President and CEO, Ellen O’Hara. “We have many sponsors other than Zetron and its employees who help us put this event on. It’s a great event that gives first responders who are under so much pressure a day off to just have fun, golf and enjoy themselves. They are there for us. They are there to help citizens have good lives and protect us, keep us safe whether it’s from fires or people who are trying to shoot us or rob us, so it is really essential for us to support them in this event, but also our key benefactor of this event is ‘Behind the Badge Foundation’ and that is just such a great and wonderful service that is for our first responders.” I’ve been proud to serve as emcee for all five years of the event!
