SEATTLE - Sunday featured a mix of morning clouds and some late-afternoon sun breaks. We watched for a few showers, mainly near the Canadian border and across the North Cascades, where an isolated thunderstorm couldn't be ruled out.
Otherwise, the region was forecast to stay mostly dry aside from a few sprinkles this morning, with highs reaching the mid 70s.
The heat will begin to crank up Monday and Tuesday. Monday will bring highs in the upper 70s, followed by a much warmer Tuesday with temperatures climbing into the mid to upper 80s.

As temperatures rise, smoke could become a bigger concern. Air quality will stay generally good to moderate Sunday, but more widespread moderate readings will be possible Monday and Tuesday, with some locations potentially reaching unhealthy-for-sensitive-groups levels or worse (especially near the fires over the Cascades).
The smoke is not expected to be terrible everywhere, but some areas could see noticeable impacts. Smoke forecasts can change, so stay tuned for updates.

By Wednesday, a return to more westerly winds and an onshore flow will help push some of the smoke out of our region. Wednesday through Saturday will be much more comfortable, with highs in the low to mid 70s and a familiar pattern of morning clouds followed by afternoon sunshine.

Meanwhile, fire danger will remain elevated across central and eastern Washington.
High fire danger will return Monday and Tuesday, so warm, dry conditions and gusty winds will continue to be a concern for fire weather in those areas.
Seattle weather will stay mild, but fire danger will remain elevated east of the Cascades. (FOX 13 Seattle)
