Easter Forecast: Wet, windy, and cooler than normal
SEATTLE - Saturdays highs were cooler than average with the Seattle area landing in the low 50s. The normal seasonal high for this time of year is now 58.
Here's the forecast breakdown for Easter and the start of the work week:
Easter Sunday: Unfortunately, we're forecasting wet & gusty conditions. The Easter Bunny will have wet paws this year when hiding eggs for your backyard hunts. High near 54.
Monday: Showers continue with much cooler highs in the mid to upper 40s.
Tuesday: Showers decrease with afternoon sun breaks. Highs stay cool in the mid to upper 40s.
We'll remain cloudy and showery overnight with temperatures only dropping a few degrees from Saturdays highs into the upper 40s.
This year, Easter Sunday is looking wet & gusty as an atmospheric river slams the region.
Rain totals tally up will add up with this system! Seattle could see up to an inch plus through the weekend, which is much needed since we are behind for the year by just over 5.5". Places like the NW WA Coast and Shelton could see even more rain in the bucket.
With so much rain falling over the Olympic mountains, we're keeping a close eye downstream at the Skokomish River in Mason County. Mountain runoff into the Skokomish could cause a sharp rise in river levels through next week for minor flooding. And that is why a "Flood Watch" will stay in effect through Tuesday.
Rain is heaviest by 5pm, especially west of downtown. The Kitsap Peninsula south will see intense showers blanket the area by dinner time.
Highs on Easter warm into the low to mid 50s. We're forecasting 54 for the Seattle area.
A "Wind Advisory" goes into effect early Sunday through 6pm for the Coast, the Islands, and North Sound. We expect sustained winds out of the south 20-30mph with gusts up to 55mph.
Impacts: Possible down tree limbs and a few power outages.
Showers continue into the start of the week, but we'll see drier weather mid to end of the week. We will experience cooler highs, only warming into the upper 40s.
Lowland showers and mountain snow linger into Tuesday, but by late in the day quieter weather returns with highs staying cool in the upper 40s.
Wednesday, look for partly sunny skies with highs in the low to mid 50s.
Clouds increase on Thursday with a slight chance of showers. By Friday and Saturday we make a comeback as high temps cruise to normal and even warmer! Enjoy!
Have a great weekend all! ~Erin Mayovsky, FOX 13 Forecaster
