13 Tacoma schools now found with lead in water

SEATTLE (AP) — Tacoma schools officials say ongoing reviews of old water quality tests have revealed another elementary school with unsafe levels of lead in certain sources of drinking water.

A news release late Thursday said 2015 tests at Stanley Elementary show two water fixtures — which can be faucets, drinking fountains or other water sources — had slightly above acceptable levels of lead.

Stanley is the 13th elementary school in the district to have unsafe levels of lead in drinking water in tests done between 2013 and this year. The district has reviewed old tests from 22 schools and plans to retest all of its schools within a month.

The district on Monday informed parents of extraordinarily high levels of lead found at Mann and Reed elementary schools in tests done in May 2015 that went unreported and unfixed.
