14-year-old girl, 17-year-old brother shot in South Everett; teen suspect arrested after standoff
EVERETT, Wash. -- A 14-year-old girl and her 17-year-old brother were shot multiple times near Discovery Elementary School in South Everett Thursday night, the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said.
Emergency crews rushed the two to Seattle's Harborview Medical Center, where the boy was listed in critical condition and the girl was in satisfactory condition Thursday.
A 17-year-old boy suspected in the shooting was arrested early Friday morning after a several hour standoff with police, Snohomish County sheriff's deputies said. Emergency crews evaluated the boy for minor injuries likely stemming from a tear-gas-like irritant used to force him out of his house.
The suspect's name was not immediately released.
The sheriff's office said the shooting was reported at about 6:30 p.m. near the 11700 block of Meridian Avenue South. It reportedly occurred in the parking lot of Discovery Elementary.
No students or employees of the schools were involved, the office said.
Sheriff's detectives are searching for evidence between Discovery Elementary School and Voyager Middle School, the sheriff's office said.
No details were immediately released about what led up to the shooting.
