Abandoned kitten found on street next to heartbreaking note from child

KIRKLAND -- Every once in a while, a Facebook post can simultaneously break and warm your heart.

One of MEOW Cat Rescue's latest posts does exactly that.

On Thursday, the local non-kill animal shelter posted a Facebook picture telling the story of how a women in Kirkland walking her dog came across a closed cardboard box on the sidewalk. Her dog took special interest in the box, so the woman decided to lift the flap.

Inside the box was a tiny, thin kitten. Above the kitten was an emotional note, apparently scribbled by a caring youngster.

"My Mommys boyfriend is mean to me," the note read. "Desperet (sic) for loving home."

MEOW explains:

MEOW says the woman took the kitten to the vet, and then brought it to the animal shelter. The kitten is now in a foster home and headed for a happier, better life.

"We have more questions than answers," MEOW said. "But are forever thankful for the bravery of the child who knew the kitten deserved better and the kindness of the woman who saved the kitten."

Soon after the pictures were posted on MEOW's Facebook page, commenters suggested that the woman leave a note where she found the kitten, telling the youngster that the kitten was rescued, and safe and sound.

Of course, others wondered too about a more pressing problem.

"I hope the child is safe," one commenter said.

"Yes," MEOW responded. "This is the very same concern we have."
