Alabama governor orders Confederate flags taken down from state Capitol grounds
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — The latest move to banish the Confederate flag comes from Alabama's governor.
Republican Robert Bentley has ordered the flags to be taken down from the grounds of the state Capitol.
For the past two decades, Alabama has displayed four Confederate flags around a large monument to Confederate soldiers outside the Alabama Capitol.
On Wednesday, they had all come down.
Meanwhile, one of Mississippi's Republican U.S. senators, Roger Wicker, says the Confederate battle emblem should be removed from the state flag. He says it offends a lot of people, and gives a false impression of Mississippi.
