'His smile was so big and bright:' Family mourns 2-year-old boy killed in Tacoma house fire

A 2-year-old has died in a house fire that happened in Tacoma Wednesday afternoon.

According to Tacoma Fire, smoke was showing from the second-floor window of a home on E. Columbia Avenue.

Crews received information that someone was possibly trapped inside. Firefighters searched the house for possible victims and found the child dead inside.

The boy was named after the family's great-uncle, Adam Lee. The family has lived through so many struggles, and the young boy was supposed to be a beacon of hope for all of them.

"His smile was so big and so bright. We all have this left dimple in our family, but he got two," sobbed cousin Stephanie LaFountaine.

"My son was gonna be the one that was changing that. My son was strong. He was a strong boy," his father Gail Patrick Hendrickx said.

Police have not released the cause of death.

The Puyallup Nation and Tacoma Police will continue to investigate. The FBI is also investigating as the death occurred on Puyallup Tribue trust property.
