Breidablik Elementary School in Poulsbo to be closed
POULSBO -- After a 12-month study, the North Kitsap School District Board of Directors voted Thursday night to close Breidablik Elementary School in Poulsbo.
The school district said the decision was based “on several years of budget cuts, continued budget challenges and steadily declining enrollment. There are currently over 800 open elementary seats across seven elementary schools. Enrollment projections indicate that excess seat capacity may reach over 1,000 seats in the next three years.”
As a result of the school closure, there will be students from across the district who will be attending a different school next year. A committee has been formed consisting of parents and staff that will be looking at boundary adjustments for all schools K-12, the district said. Details will be posted to the district website and publicized as soon as they are available.
Notice of the board's decision is posted on the district’s website: www.nkschools.org.
