Chilling 911 calls from Marysville school shooting: 'I am in the cafeteria, I have the shooter!'

SEATTLE -- New details about the Marysville-Pilchuck High School shooting were revealed Wednesday with the release of the 911 calls, including one from a teacher who said she was sitting right next to the shooter.

The calls detail minute-by-minute how the school and law enforcement reacted and give some insight into the courageous acts of one teacher who did everything she could to stop the shooting attack.

Freshman student Jaylen Fryberg, 15, opened fire in the cafeteria on Oct. 24. One of the first 911 calls came from a teacher, Megan Silberberger.

“I am in the cafeteria, I have the shooter, one shooter,” Silberberger told dispatchers. “I do not see the gun. I`m looking at him. I need help, I need help. I`m sitting right next to him. Black pants black shoes, black jacket.

“He is a high school student. I do not know how old he is. I tried to stop him before he shot himself.”

Even after the threat was over, frantic calls from parents continued.

One dispatcher advised them to, “Just stand by your phone, and wait for the school to contact you and then listen to the news to find out if there is any location parents are supposed to be meeting.”

Most kids eventually met up with their parents at a nearby church, but some looked for shelter anywhere they could find it, even at neighbors.

Prior to the shootings, police say, Fryberg called or texted several friends and asked them to meet him in the school cafeteria. Five people, including the shooter, died as a result of the shooting. No motive has been reported by authorities.

The only victim to survive the shooting, 14-year old Nate Hatch, was recently released from the hospital and is resting at home with his family.
