Deputy hears gunshots, finds man slumped over wheel in Skyway; detectives launch murder investigation

SKYWAY, Wash. -- King County detectives are searching for killers, after a man in his 20's was found shot to death in his car Sunday morning.

The King County Sheriff's Office said one of its deputies heard gunshots while on patrol in the area of South 126th Street and Renton Avenue South, just after 4 a.m. Sunday.

When he arrived at the scene, the deputy found a red car with a driver slumped over the wheel with gunshot wounds. Paramedics were called to the scene, but were unable to resuscitate the victim.

Naya Jean-Pierre didn’t see the shooting, because she was inside her hookah bar at the time. But she did see the victim before he was taken from his car.

“After I come outside, I see a dead body just like that. Oh my god, that's very scary,” she says. “Nobody wants to be in the area with the dead bodies. This is crazy.”

No one else appeared to be injured, but bullets hit several other cars and nearby businesses. Jean-Pierre says she’s worried about the safety of her customers and her family now.

“I know the police are working hard, but no, no, no. Our children are not safe.”

Investigators are looking into the possibility that the shooting was gang-related, but have not confirmed anything yet.

Witnesses have told detectives two black men were seen leaving the area in a silver Chevrolet Impala. No further descriptions were immediately available.

Detectives are asking anyone that has information about this crime to call the King County Sheriff's Office at 206-296-3311 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
