Driver, 18, arrested after skateboarder run over and killed

VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after he allegedly drove into a skateboarder in a Vancouver, Washington, parking lot Wednesday and killed him.

Joshua Jones, 18, was booked in Clark County Jail on a second-degree murder charge, The Oregonian/OregonLive reported. It wasn’t immediately known if he has a lawyer to comment for him.

Vancouver police said a 45-year-old man became trapped under a car at about 1:05 p.m. in a shopping complex parking lot.

Police said the man, whose name they did not release, had been skateboarding when he approached Jones’ vehicle and punched the window.

Witnesses reported Jones made a U-turn in his car and drove toward the man, and didn’t brake until after he had struck him, police said.

Witnesses tried to free the man with a car jack, the Vancouver Fire Department said. Fire and rescue crews eventually freed him and he was taken to a hospital, where he died, authorities said.

Officers interviewed Jones and arrested him.

Vancouver Police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said she hadn’t heard anything about the two men having known each other previously. She said as far as she knows, Jones remained at or near the scene after he hit the man.
