Edmonds school district considers uniforms for students

LYNNWOOD -- The Edmonds school district is seriously discussing school uniforms after a number of schools in the district expressed interest.

At least two schools, College Place Elementary and Cedar Valley Community School, in Lynnwood say they are already in favor of school uniforms.

The school board could have a final vote on the issue Tuesday night. If approved, schools would have the discretion to implement uniforms. It would not be a district-wide policy.

Cedar Valley Principal Charlotte Beyer says 84% of her students receive free or reduced lunch.

She says school uniforms would help families save money on clothes. Beyer says on average it would cost one family $100 for uniforms for a year. College Place is considering a system so students can trade uniforms if they outgrow them.
