Elementary school teacher fired after saying 'the blacks' should be 'segregated'

LUBBOCK, Texas -- An elementary school teacher in Texas has been fired after writing an inflammatory Facebook post saying "blacks" should be "segregated on one side of town."

According to MySanantonio.com, Karen Fitzgibbons was a fourth-grade teacher at Bennett Elementary School outside of Lubbock, Texas. She was fired Thursday after a Facebook post that was "almost to the point" of supporting racial segregation, the Friendship International School District said.

In the post that has since been deleted, Fitzgibbons supported the actions of McKinney Police Cpl. David Eric Casebolt, a police officer who recently came under fire for pointing his gun at two unarmed black teenagers and pinning a 15-year-old to the ground during a call.

"I'm just going to just go ahead and say it... the blacks are the ones causing the problems and this 'racial tension,'" Fitzgibbons said. "I guess that's what happens when you flunk out of school and have no education. I'm sure that their parents are just as guilty for not knowing what their kids were doing; or knew and didn't care. I'm almost to the point of wanting them all segregated on one side of town so they can hurt each other and leave the innocent people alone."

She continued, MySanantonio.com reports.

"Maybe the 50s and 60s were really on to something. Now, let the bashing of my true and honest opinion begin... GO! #imnotracist #imsickofthemcausingtrouble #itwasagatedcommunity"

The Friendship International School District where Fitzgibbons worked said in a statement that the district was "deeply disappointed" in the thoughtlessness of the former teacher's post. The recent conduct was unacceptable, the school district said.

Fitzgibbons later deleted her post and "apologized to the appropriate people" she told MySanantonio.com.
